Frank J. Guastella
An experienced and analytical professional, Frank J. Guastella
has over 30 years of golf management experience focused
on planning, marketing, operations and administration at
leading golf facilities. He has attained the status of
PGA Master Golf Professional and currently serves on the
Board of Directors and is the President of the Michigan
Golf Course Owners Association.
In 1979, Frank was selected as the Golf Professional of
the St Clair River Country Club in St. Clair, Michigan.
In 1984, he became the General Manager of the club, a position
he held until 1990 when he became the General Manager at
the Paint Creek Golf Club in Lake Orion, Michigan. While
at Paint Creek, he successfully administered a membership
marketing program that substantially increased the membership
of the club in a short period of time. In late 1991, he
became the General Manager of the Lochmoor Club in Grosse
Pointe Woods, Michigan.
In 1995, Frank's entrepreneurial spirit and marketing
skills led him to partner with William R. Roberts to form
R & G Management, Inc. R & G Management was created
to acquire, lease and manage golf facilities in the Upper
Midwest. Their operating approach was founded on performance
principles that included the creation of a “first class”
golf environment for the golfer made affordable by competitive
pricing; an emphasis on staff attention to customer comments
and concerns; and acute, vigorous analysis and monitoring
of income and expense concerns. Embarking on an aggressive
marketing program, R & G Management was successful
in the conversion of the Red Fox Run Golf Course at the
former K. I. Sawyer Air Force Base (located near Marquette,
Michigan) from a closed military venue to an open public
facility.
Frank also became a partner in Red Fox Properties, Inc.
which was a Michigan corporation created to acquire housing
and other real estate at the former K. I. Sawyer Air Force
Base. Red Fox Properties purchased 330 housing units and
developed these units into rental facilities and a four
phase single family housing development. They also purchased
the former Officers Club and developed it into a restaurant
and banquet center.
Frank is a 1975 graduate of Ferris State University with
a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing. He has served
on the Board of Directors of the Lake Superior Community
Partnership and was a member of the Marquette County Recreation
and Tourism Committee. In 1999, he was awarded the Michigan
Golf Course Owners Association Player Development Award.
He serves as a Rules Official for the Michigan Section
PGA and was a member of the PGA of America Technology Task
Force in 2005.
