Dean Horn's 30 years of golf management experience has
earned him an outstanding reputation as an innovator and
front-runner within the golf industry. With his cutting
edge ideas, detailed management style and history of profitability,
Horn has proven himself a leader among industry peers.
As president of Franklin Golf, Horn is responsible for
all Franklin's public, private and semi-private managed properties
in addition to coordinating all consulting and strategic
partner relationships.
Originally from Indiana, Horn moved to Boca Raton, Florida
in 1977 as part of a 7-man team hired by American Fletcher
Mortgage Company to turn around a failing Deer Creek Country
Club in Deerfield Beach, Florida. In 1981 Horn left Deer
Creek and accepted a position with the Boca Woods Country
Club and the Kennedy Brothers Development Company, a 36-hole
private real estate project in West Boca Raton serving
as General Manager/Director of Golf from 1982-1985. In
1985 he returned to Deer Creek as President / General Manager
where he continued through 1999.
In 1988, Franklin Golf was formed to over
see Deer Creek and a newly acquired property in Coral
Springs, Florida named Carolina Club. Several years later
a Michigan project named Oakhurst Golf & Country Club
was started in which Horn was instrumental in course grow-in
and establishing operational systems and structure. Since
1999 Horn has continued his involvement with Oakhurst's
exclusive private facility in addition to managing and
consulting with third parties and their properties throughout
the Mid-West. In 2001 Franklin became McKay Golf Management
managing 7 properties in a 5 state area. In 2004 the Company
name was changed back to Franklin and headquarters were
relocated from Boca Raton, Florida to Clarkston, Michigan.
Since inception Horn has served as President and is currently
an owner of the Company.
Horn has directed several golf course
and clubhouse construction projects in his management career.
In 1989, he supervised an extensive $2 million remodeling
of the Carolina Club's golf course. From 1990-1992, he served as project
manager and owner representative for the construction of
the two South Florida-based clubhouses consisting of more
than 70,000 square feet. Each clubhouse design included
a golf shop, locker room, restaurant and lounge, banquet
facilities, swimming pool, club storage and golf cart area.
In 1993, Horn supervised the complete course renovation
of Deer Creek Golf Club, redesigned by world-renowned course
architect Arthur Hills. The renovation, which consisted
of new tees, greens, fairways, bunkers, cart paths and irrigation
construction, was accomplished in a record time of 5 months.
Later that year, Horn successfully negotiated a ten-year
license agreement with the award-winning, five-diamond,
five-star Boca Raton Resort and Club, allowing the Resort
day to day operational control of both Deer Creek's and
Carolina's $6,000,000 combined food and beverage operations.
Over the years, Horn has assisted lenders with struggling Club & Golf Properties and recently was responsible for a $1,500,000 net turnaround of the Oakhurst Golf & Country Club, a private club in Clarkston, MI.
Currently Horn is working with Banks and Property Owners to improve profitability and operating efficiency in addition to owning and acquiring golf facilities for himself and his partners.
Born and reared in Indiana, Horn attended
Indiana University. Dean and his family relocated
from Boca Raton, Florida to Clarkston, Michigan in 2004.
